FAQ about Rally Software to Jira migration
-
How long does a Rally → Jira migration usually take?
The timeline really depends on the size and complexity of your Rally setup. Smaller teams with a few projects can be ready in a matter of weeks. Larger, multi-team environments with custom fields, heavy history, or many integrations often need a few months to do things properly.
During the scoping call, we review your setup and give you a realistic estimate. Then the pilot migration helps confirm that timeline. You always know what will happen, when, and who needs to be involved. -
Will we lose historical data like dates, owners, or workflow states?
No. Preserving your history is one of the core goals of the migration. We carry over creation dates, state changes, owners, and other historical details so you don’t lose reporting accuracy or traceability. Your teams will still be able to see how work evolved over time in Rally once it’s in Jira. We also validate history during pilot and cutover using before/after counts, samples, and exception logs, so you know exactly what moved and what didn’t.
-
Can you migrate all our work items and custom fields?
Yes. At Deviniti support migrating epics, stories, tasks, defects, and most other item types you rely on in Rally. Custom fields and states are mapped into Jira structures in a way that still makes sense to your teams. We redesign mappings where needed so you don’t end up with clutter or confusing setups. The goal is to make Jira easier to use than your old configuration.
-
What about comments, attachments, and links?
We migrate comments, attachments, and basic links so your teams land in Jira with the full context they had in Rally. Parent–child relationships, cross-project references, and dependencies are also kept whenever technically feasible. If there are limitations, we identify them early and give you options, so nothing is a surprise later.
-
Will our teams, sprints, and boards look the same in Jira?
We make sure your teams can continue working right away. That includes recreating teams, boards, and sprints in Jira with matching dates, members, and workflow logic. Time zones and date misalignments can affect reporting, so we also fix offset issues to keep your velocity charts, burn-downs, and historical trends accurate.
-
How do you minimize downtime or migration risks?
We reduce risk by not treating your migration as a one-shot event. Instead, we run a pilot, refine the process, and rehearse the cutover so everyone knows their role. You get a clear migration runbook outlining timings, freeze windows, fallback steps, and responsibilities. During cutover, we monitor the process closely, validate the data, and only open Jira to all users once your go/no-go team approves it. After go-live, we stay with you through hypercare to resolve any issues quickly and support your admins as they take ownership.
-
Do you have security/compliance documentation we can use for vendor due diligence (audits, certifications, privacy)?
