App registration in Azure
Learn how to register Azure AD Attributes in Azure Active Directory
In order to connect Azure AD with Jira you need to register the Azure AD Attributes app in Azure AD. During this process, you’ll generate following identification keys that are necessary for the further steps:
- Directory (tenant) ID
- Application (client) ID
- Client secret value
Adding the app to Azure AD
To register the Azure AD Attributes app in Azure AD:
On the Azure portal, open Azure Active Directory.
Select App registrations from the left navigation.
Select App Registration from the list.
Type in a name Name (for example, Azure AD Attributes).
Select Supported account types to decide who can use this application or access the API.
Define a Redirect URI (optional) so the system will return an authentication response to Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) after a successful user authentication.
Azure AD Attributes for Jira is registered in Azure AD. Directory ID and Application ID are generated.
Generating a client secret
Directory (tenant) ID and Application (client) ID are ready. The last thing necessary for a successful Jira-Azure integration is a client secret.
Client secret values can be viewed only immediately after creation. Make sure to save the value before leaving the page.
To generate a client secret:
- Navigate to Certificates & secrets.
Normally you’ll continue on the same page, but in case you need to get back to this step in the future you can follow this path: Azure Active Directory > App registrations > Azure AD Attributes for Jira > Certificates & secrets.
- Click + New client secret.
- Complete the details:
- Expiration period
- Click Add.
- Copy the client secret value to clipboard and save it for further configuration.
The client secret is generated.
