Data residency

Learn how Jira data residency affects Azure AD Attributes Sync for Jira.

Some organizations need their data to stay in a specific region - for example, the EU - and never be stored or transferred outside it. Atlassian supports this through data residency: by default, Jira stores your instance’s data in a Global location, but you can move it to a specific region instead.

Supported regions

Azure AD Attributes Sync for Jira supports data residency in the following regions:

  • United States (US)
  • European Union (EU)

If you move your Jira instance to one of these regions, the app can migrate its data there too. See the steps below.

Note

Changing your Jira instance’s location doesn’t automatically move data for apps you’ve installed from the Atlassian Marketplace, including Azure AD Attributes Sync for Jira. Follow the steps below to move your app data too.

How data residency works for Jira

When you set your Jira instance’s location, Jira migrates its own data within 24-48 hours. Learn how in Move Atlassian app data to another location.

Moving app data after a location change

Azure AD Attributes Sync for Jira stores data outside Atlassian’s infrastructure, so moving your Jira instance’s location doesn’t move the app’s data automatically. To move it:

  1. Set or change your Jira instance’s location, as described above.
  2. Once Jira finishes moving its own data, click Move Marketplace apps.
  3. Atlassian takes it from here: it notifies Azure AD Attributes Sync for Jira to move your app data to the new location, and the app completes the migration within the timeframe Atlassian sets.

For detailed steps, see Move your Marketplace apps data to another location.

Note

If you skip this step, your app data stays in its original location, separate from the rest of your Jira data.
