Below is an example scenario of using the Update data post function in the company’s daily work.

Context

At your organization, promotions and role changes occur regularly as part of employee career development.

The current process: In the past, the IT and HR team manually updated employee information in Azure AD when promotions happened. This process often resulted in delays and inaccuracies as data wasn’t updated promptly across the platforms.

The new process

Now, with the Update data post function integrated into Jira workflows, promotions and employee updates are automatically synchronized between Jira and Azure AD.

The new process flow: To understand the influence of the Update data post function on the onboarding tasks, read the steps below.

Steps:

  1. Raising a promotion request:
    • The HR Manager raises a Promotion Request in Jira for an employee who is being promoted. The Jira issue includes the employee’s new information (new job title, new department and manager).
  2. Triggering the post function:
    • The HR team reviews the request, and once approved, the issue moves to the Approved status in Jira. Upon transition to the Approved status, the Update Data post function is triggered.
  3. Updating user attributes in Azure AD:
    • The post function pulls the updated information from the Jira issue and updates the employee’s profile in the Azure AD.
  4. Confirmation:
    • Once the post function is completed, Jira automatically updates the promotion request issue with a confirmation comment.

Result: With a real-time update to Azure AD data, the promoted employee can transition into their new role without administrative delays.
