This chapter provides information about the Create from template feature available on the Jira create screen.
Issue Templates for Jira Cloud allows to select and apply templates directly on the native Jira create screen. With this feature users can intuitively use previously-created templates from repositories. See the configuration below for details.
Make sure you have configured a template that is available for the project you want to use and you have admin permissions.
This method doesn’t apply to team-managed projects. See the Team managed projects chapter for detailed instructions.
UI modification doesn’t support Jira Service Management projects yet. To apply a template in such a project use the create from template button in that project instead of applying the template to the native create screen. UI modification doesn’t support the Create linked work item screen due to Atlassian limitations.
For a list of supported fields for this method, see table.
Try live demo:
Click the Create button as you would create any other Jira issue.
Select Template source and Template from the template field added by the app. These are the templates stored in a Repository that is available for this project.
Click Confirm and if your template contains Dynamic Variables, fill them accordingly.
Fill the fields that are configured in your template.
Click Create, applying a template will continue and other issues (including sub-tasks, links) will be generated based on your template data.
To select which user groups can use the Create from Template feature follow instructions in the Global configuration chapter.
You can check the Match issue type box to narrow down templates that only match the currently selected issue.
There are three steps, used by the Issue Templates for Jira app, to match issue type from template with issue that will be created from it:
