Synchronization of existing issues

Issue Sync Pro allows you to manually synchronize already existing issues.

All you have to do is provide a pair of issues to be synchronized.

Once the synchronization is established between two issues, updated data that is specified in the mapping will be synchronized.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Jira Settings > Apps.

  2. Click Synchronizations under Issue Sync Pro section.

  3. Click Next on already existing synchronization.

  5. Manually type the keys of the issues you want to synchronize. Picker will suggest an option only after full issue key is entered.

    Note

Remember that the issue picker will display only those issues that meet the mapping requirements (such as issue type, or applied JQL filter), and are not yet synchronized.

  6. optionally: click the Add button to include additional pairs of issues.

    Note

You can add up to 200 pairs of issues, before the Add option becomes unavailable.

  7. Select Sync issues to initiate the synchronization.

Result

Synchronization of selected issue pairs will begin. A progress bar will be displayed, informing about the status:

Issue Sync Pro
Issue Sync Pro

Keep in mind, that after creating pairs, the data will be synchronized once you update the issue.

Example

On your first instance, you’ve created issue A, on your second instance, you’ve created issue B and you want to synchronize them with each other. After installing the Issue Sync Pro, you can pair these two given issues, and make changes on one of them, which will result in synchronization of updated data.

A record of actions performed and their status can be found in the Synchronization history tab

Bulk synchronization

To perform bulk synchronization, use a CSV file, which you can add by dragging and dropping it or the Browse button. When creating the file, remember that:

  • It shouldn’t have a header.
  • The file should have two columns. The first should contain the issue key from your Jira instance, and the second should include the issue key from your partner Jira.
  • Remember to put the issue keys in the appropriate columns. If you place an issue key from your Jira instance in the column prepared for issue keys of your partner Jira, the synchronization won’t work.
  • The file has to be separated with semicolons.
  • Empty lines and white spaces are allowed in rows containing data.
Tip

Below you’ll find a template illustrating how a properly configured CSV file should look like:

ktm-123;btm-123
ktm-124;btm-456
Warning

The synchronization won’t be successful if you add an incorrect issue key, meaning an issue key that will cause a JQL error, for example, EP - 1 instead of EP-1.

The maximum file size can be approximately 1MB.
